Crime rate down in Whitllesea

Northern Melbourne State MPs Bronwyn Halfpenny, Danielle Green and Lily D’Ambrosio have welcomed figures released by the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) that indicate a reduction of crime in the City of Whittlesea.

In the 12 months to 30 September 2017, the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) noted in the City of Whittlesea:

  • 2.6 per cent decrease in offences from the same period last year.
  • 5.3 per cent decrease in the offence rate per 100,000 population.

A number of different types of offences decreased in the 12 months to 30 September 2017 in the City of Whittlesea, including:

  • 7.2 per cent decrease in property and deception offences
  • 15 per cent decrease in drug offences
  • 17.5 per cent decrease in public order and security offences

While these statistics are encouraging, the work is not over.

The Whittlesea area has 45 new frontline police from the first 300 police allocated from the Andrews Labor Government’s record investment of 3135 more police over 5 years.

The $2 billion Community Safety Statement is being rolled out and implemented.

The new 24 hour Mernda Police Station is now operational, boosting policing numbers in Mernda, Doreen and in the Whittlesea township.

Police Custody Officers have also been deployed to Mill Park Police Station to supervise suspects in custody and get police back out on the beat.

The Andrews Labor Government will continue to work side by side with Victoria Police to deliver the resources and powers they need to keep Victorians safe.
