Construction is underway on the $24 million upgrades at Donnybrook and Wallan stations to improve access, safety and comfort for passengers in two of Victoria’s fastest growing communities.

Crews have this week begun to establish construction site offices and install safety fences at both stations ahead of major works on the upgrades.

Donnybrook Station will feature a new car park with 150 extra spaces to give passengers more options for parking, taking pressure off nearby Springs Road.

The upgrades will include a new ramp at the station to improve passenger safety and accessibility.

The replacement coach stop will be relocated, from Donnybrook Road with two new sheltered bus bays being built within the station precinct.

The new bus bays will provide easier access for passengers who will soon benefit from a connecting bus service funded in this week’s State Budget.

Modifications will be made to Springs Road to provide better access for both buses and cars, as well as improved security with CCTV on the platforms and in the car park.

The upgrades at Wallan Station will improve passenger amenities, with an extension to the waiting room and new bathrooms.

The car park will be reconfigured to include two new bus bays with shelters, as well as more bicycle facilities. Security at the station will be boosted, with CCTV and lighting installed on the platforms and in the car park.

The city-bound platforms at both stations will be extended, enabling passengers to use all train doors to board and disembark, reducing the amount of time trains will need to stop.

Work on the Donnybrook and Wallan station upgrades will ramp up and coaches will replace trains between Southern Cross Station, Seymour and Shepparton on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June, as well as on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June.

These works have been scheduled at the same time as V/Line maintenance to minimise disruption to passengers. Albury trains will continue to run as normal on the adjacent tracks.

Passengers are asked to allow an additional 50 minutes’ travel time and plan their journey at or by calling 1800 800 007.

While trains are not running, V/Line will complete rail bridge maintenance at Wallan and Kilmore East, level crossing works in Beveridge and track resurfacing between Seymour and Shepparton along with continuing their multi-million-dollar sleeper replacement program.

The $24 million upgrades to Donnybrook and Wallan stations will be completed in early 2020 and are part of the $1.75 billion Regional Rail Revival program, which is upgrading every regional passenger line in the state and creating more than 1000 jobs.
