A new community hub and an integrated family and children’s centre are coming to Mitchell Shire thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Local Government Minister Shaun Leane, Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes have announced that the Growing Suburbs Fund will invest a combined $1.9 million towards the new Wallan Community Hub and an expansion for the Kilmore Family and Children’s Centre.

This funding will help Mitchell Shire Council to support children and families in Wallan and Kilmore in accessing community services and early education.

The $850,000 funding for the new Wallan Community Services Hub will create a single integrated cohesive community facility to support community access to services and programs focused on early intervention and prevention.

In addition, $1.1 million will go toward the $3.3 million Kilmore Family and Children’s Centre Expansion to provide much-needed space for maternal child health and early learning services, increasing numbers for young families in the area.

Through support for a wide variety of different projects like these, the $25 million expansion to the Growing Suburbs Fund will continue its strong record of job creation and investment in communities – an important contribution to recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Growing Suburbs Fund investment complements the Victorian $2.7 billion Building Works Package, which includes over $278 million in shovel-ready infrastructure projects across the state to be delivered through councils.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has invested $275 million in funding 221 community projects. This has created more than 7470 jobs and leveraged more than $755 million in investment.
