FIRST SOD TURNED ON NEW YOUTH SERVICES HUB IN WALLAN

Works have commenced on a new Youth Services Hub which will provide essential mental health, substance abuse and housing support services to the Wallan community, thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green today joined Mitchell Shire Council and the local community to turn the first sod on the redevelopment site at Wellington Street.

The $1.7 million redevelopment will modernise the interior of an existing Council building to create a one-stop shop for essential youth services.

The new facility will also enable education and training programs to be expanded, with two youth program areas, multi-use office spaces and IT equipped learning spaces.

The project received a $645,789 contribution from the Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, which supports the creation of community connections, enhanced services and provides greater opportunities at the local level.

The project will be delivered by Mitchell Shire Council, who provided the remaining $1,090,400.

Since 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has invested more than $14 million for 17 projects in the Mitchell Shire, including the Wallan East Early Learning Centre ($2.17 million), the Greater Beveridge Community Centre ($2.14 million) and the Wallan Adventure Playground ($950,000).
