NETBALL PRECINCT UPGRADES UNDERWAY IN STAWELL

Players from Stawell Football Netball Club, the CKS Swifts Football Netball Club and Stawell Interchurch Netball Association can look forward to a real home ground advantage in 2022 and beyond, with construction progressing on the upgrades to North Park Netball Precinct in Stawell.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Danielle Green today visited the precinct to inspect the progress of works on the site, made possible by a more than $1.8 million funding boost from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

Up until recently, over 400 local netball players have had to struggle with old and weathered netball court facilities that were below par and non-compliant.

The project will see the construction of three reinforced concrete netball courts at North Park in Stawell, with 100 lux lighting, along with new pathways, spectator areas, shelters and fencing.

The new developments provide the perfect base for local netball to stage more training, local and regional competition games and development programs, day and night.

The project has created significant local economic uplift during planning, design and construction phases and the project is expected to be complete in April 2022.

There are 70 projects that have now benefitted from a share of $178 million from the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, that recognises the overwhelming demand for shovel-ready community sports infrastructure across and Victoria.

It is part of the Government’s $1.1 billion investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.

From playspace upgrades to netball court redevelopments, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible places for Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation participation.

They are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and fast-tracking community recovery by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.

Ms Green acknowledged the Northern Grampians Shire for their commitment and financial contribution to the project.
