Wallan’s former police station will become a multi-purpose facility connecting emergency relief services with other vital community resources and projects.

Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green today helped unveil the new Wallan Future Hub on behalf of Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes, thanks to $188,000 in funding from the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative.

The Wallan Future Hub is a partnership between Love in Action, Rivers and Ranges Community Leadership, Centre for Continuing Education and Wallan Secondary College to create a one-stop help shop for the entire community.

The new facility will host a range of events and activities connecting locals to vital programs such as pathways to education, training, employment and enterprise, community leadership projects and opportunities for mentoring, work experience and volunteering.

The site will also serve as a local home of emergency relief and practical help, with storage of donated goods assisting those in need during times of hardship.

Pick My Project is a Victorian Government first – a $30 million participatory budgeting initiative that puts decision making in the hands of Victorians.

The Wallan Future Hub project is one of nine successful projects from the Pick My Project initiative in the Goulburn region.

The region received more than $1.48 million in funding through the initiative, after a total of 12,697 votes were cast.

Other projects in the Goulburn region include Transition Village Wallan, which will help provide a community response to homelessness, a multi-purpose scout and community shed servicing Alexandra and Murrindindi and Save Our Koala, engaging the community in koala conservation across Moira.
