SMILE SQUAD VISITING NILLUMBILK SCHOOLS

The Andrews Labor Government’s free dental program is ramping up again with government school students in Nillumbik receiving a check-up from the Smile Squad from this school term.

Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green MP announced local schools in Nillumbik have been invited to take part in Smile Squad from Term 2.

The Labor Government’s $321.9 million program provides free dental care to Victorian government school students – saving families hundreds of dollars every year.

From Term 2 2022, Smile Squad vans will be rolling out to schools in five new Local Government Areas, including: Nillumbik, with more areas to be announced soon.

  • Indigo
  • Maroondah
  • Mildura
  • Nillumbik
  • Pyrenees

Smile Squad services will be offered to nearly half a million students, in over 1,100 schools by the end of the year.

A quarter of children across Australia have untreated tooth decay and in Victoria, dental conditions are the highest single cause of preventable hospitalisations for kids under 10.

The Smile Squad vans provide free examinations and treatment to all students in Victorian government schools, including teeth cleaning, fluoride application, fissure sealants, fillings, root canals and any other non-cosmetic treatments to ensure our kids have healthy teeth.

Smile Squad encourages all Victorian children and their families to keep looking after their oral health by eating well, drinking tap water and brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

Once fully rolled out, the Smile Squad vans will provide check-ups and dental treatment to more than 630,000 public school kids every year – saving families time and money.
