WALLAN MAGPIES SET TO SWOOP UNDER NEW LIGHTING
Wallan Magpies Football and Netball Club and Wallan Magpies Junior Football Club can ramp up their training and development thanks to the installation of lighting at Greenhill Reserve in Wallan.
Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green today visited the popular local sports ground to officially launch the new lighting, made possible by a more than $292,000 investment from the Victorian Government.
The more than 450 members signed up to the local Magpies football and netball teams can now practice their training drills day and night with the installation sports lighting to Australian competition standard for football and netball around the venue’s two new netball courts and main oval.
The bright new lighting also opens up the venue to competition netball, more AFL, as well as other sports including local basketball and gymnastics for training and other club related activities.
The lighting project was made possible thanks to a more than $83,000 from the Victorian Government’s Country Football Netball Program and a further $208,800 from the Local Sport Infrastructure Fund.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $1.05 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014, including funding towards upgrading change rooms to make facilities more female-friendly and installing a second competition-standard netball court at Greenhill Reserve.
This also includes a recent budget $110 million boost to the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program as well as an extra $27 million to make sure our sports facilities are more accessible to more people.
From playspace upgrades to new lighting, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible places for Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation participation.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and fast-tracking community recovery by improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
Ms Green acknowledged the Mitchell Shire Council for its contribution to the Greenhill Reserve project.
