Sport in Whittlesea will be kicking more goals and growing players with funding from the Andrews Labor Government to construct a unisex, modular and multi-functional change facility at A.F. Walker Recreation Reserve.

Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green today announced that the A.F. Walker Recreation Reserve was among 25 sports facilities across Victoria to share in more than $2.2 million from the latest round of the Country Football and Netball Program.

This program replaces and upgrades ageing grounds and facilities for football and netball clubs across regional Victoria, so they can meet growing demand and welcome even more members.

It’s a partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to help football and netball clubs across the state, because everybody deserves equal facilities, no matter where they live.

Grants from the latest round include ground resurfacing, installation of lighting and the construction of new pavilions and netball courts.

In Whittlesea we are delivering $100,000 to the A.F Walker Recreation Reserve unisex change facility project to cater for the growth of female football participating in the region by providing a safe and inclusive environment.

This means that sport in Whittlesea will have room to grow and locals can get on the ground when they want, whether as a player, coach, umpire or volunteer.

Labor first started the Country Football and Netball Program in 2005, and since, the program has delivered more than $26.5 million to over 470 projects across rural Victoria.

The funding is part of the Andrews Government’s strong commitment to community sport and active recreation, and to encourage all Victorians to get out there and get active.

That’s why we’re investing almost half a billion dollars in our 2018/19 Budget to ensure sport and active recreation goes from strength to strength.

Since coming to office, the Andrews Labor Government has already committed $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities including local and regional sports grounds, leisure facilities, parks, playgrounds and trails.

Quotes attributable to Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green
“Footy and netball clubs are the heart and soul of local towns. Unfortunately many are struggling with run down pavilions or grounds.”

“This boost will go a long way to helping Whittlesea cater for the growing numbers of people keen to get involved in grassroots sport, providing more opportunities for locals to get active and play the sport they love.”
