Young leaders across the Yan Yean electorate are being encouraged to take part in a new program designed to empower them.

Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green announced today that applications for the Yan Yean Youth Advisory Council have opened.

Comprising of members, aged 15-24, the council is a new initiative in the electorate that focuses on the voices and priorities of young people from across Mitchell Shire, City of Whittlesea and Nillumbik.

The youth advisory council will provide young people with a platform to explore and share their opinions and ideas, while actively engaging with the decision-making process to represent the interest of their peers.

Once formed, the Yan Yean Youth Advisory Council will meet bi-monthly with Ms Green to discuss local issues, learn about the parliamentary system and processes, and determine their priorities and projects for the year ahead.

As part of the program, participants will also engage with community leaders and undertake a visit to Parliament House.

Council members will be selected following an application process, where candidates are invited to submit their application in writing or via video.

Applications close on Friday, August 9, 2019. For more information about the Yan Yean Youth Advisory Council or to apply visit:
