New Mernda Police Station a Step Closer
Last month I had the pleasure of joining new Police Minister, Lisa Neville, Mayor Stevan Kozmevski and police station community campaign members to announce that Mernda’s new police station is one step closer to completion. The Minister publicly announced the appointment of a design and construction contractor, ADCO Constructions (Vic) Pty Ltd.
The new $15 million, 24 hour station, on the corner of Bridge Inn Road and Pimpinella Pass, will service Melbourne’s booming northern suburbs, with room to expand in the future if needed.
The station will house uniformed officers, family violence response staff and a criminal investigation unit, along with other police units and administrative staff. It’s due to be operational in the second half of 2017. Construction will commence after planning has been approved and should begin in the coming months.
The new police station in Mernda is part of the Victorian Government’s ongoing work to give police the resources they need, with more than 400 extra sworn police, including more anti-gang taskforce officers, new mobile technology and specialist police vehicles and equipment.
